Pierre Poirier


UntitledCurrently, Pierre is the Executive Director of the Paramedic Association of Canada. He is the chair of the renewal project for the Canadian Paramedic Profile (formerly the National Occupational Competency Profile) which defines the roles of a paramedic and the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Pierre has been an Advanced Care Paramedic for more than 25 years. He has worked in private, municipal, third service and fire based systems. He spent 8 years with a STARS air ambulance. In 13 years with the Ottawa Paramedic Service, he assumed several Deputy Chief roles. In addition, he was the Project Manager for the construction of a world class Headquarters and Communications Centre.

Pierre has a certificate in Health Management from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Alberta. In addition, he recently completed the York University, Schulich School of Business Master’s certificate in Municipal Leadership.
At present, Pierre holds the position of Chief, Security and Emergency Management with the City of Ottawa. In addition, he is the Project Director for the Interoperable Communications (radio) renewal project for the City of Ottawa.

He is the recipient of the Alberta Long Service Award, the Governor General’s Diamond Jubilee medal and the Exemplary Service medal.
